When to send it
Run this when you are weighing a packaging change and want customers' views before spending money on new materials. It works as a one-off: add the link to order emails for a few weeks, and post it in your Instagram bio or a story while it's open. Because it asks about preferences rather than a particular order, anyone who has bought from you can take part, including followers whose last order was months ago.
Why these questions
The survey starts by asking how much sustainable packaging matters when choosing where to shop, with three honest options running from "a main reason" to "I don't think about it much". This keeps everything after it in proportion. A vocal minority can make a change look more popular than it is, and this question shows how big that group really is among your buyers.
The ranking question puts five changes in order: plastic-free materials, less packaging overall, recycled materials, home-compostable packaging, and reusable or returnable boxes. Ranking forces a choice. Ask customers to rate each option on its own and most will say all of them matter, which won't help you decide what to do first.
The trade-off question asks what customers would accept in return: slower delivery so orders can be combined, plainer boxes, a small extra charge, or sending packaging back. Good intentions meet reality here, so read these answers most carefully before you commit.
The fourth question asks what happens to your packaging once it's empty. If plenty of people say they aren't sure how to dispose of it, a printed line on the box may do more than a new material would. The last question asks for packaging they've liked from other brands, which is a free source of ideas.
The coupon
10% off the next order with a shared code suits a short preference survey that anyone can take. Everyone who finishes gets the same code, so it does two jobs: it thanks people for their time, and it gives followers who haven't ordered lately a reason to come back.
What to do with the answers
Start with the top-ranked change, then check the trade-off answers from the customers who ranked it first. If plastic-free comes top but few will accept a higher price, look for a swap that costs about the same. Once the new packaging ships, run the packaging and unboxing survey to check that protection held up. To learn more about which customers care most, pair this with the customer profile survey.
