A free side is a low-cost thank-you that fits a menu launch, and it can introduce another dish. A shared code is enough because it only works with a paid order.

When to send it

A new dish is a bet: ingredients, prep time and photos all cost money before you know whether anyone will order it twice. This survey gives you an answer in the first few weeks. Put the QR code on a small card that goes only in bags containing the new dish, so everyone who scans has actually eaten it. Run it for two to four weeks after launch, or until there are enough answers to make a call.

Setting it up

The first question asks which new dish the customer tried. Replace the placeholder options with the names of the dishes you're testing. If you only launch one dish at a time, you can delete the question and name the dish in the survey title instead. The dropdown keeps the survey reusable: when the next launch comes round, swap in the new names and keep printing the same card.

Why these questions

Taste is rated with stars because it's quick and familiar. The question that matters most comes next: would they order it again. A dish can taste good and still not earn a reorder if it's pricey, travels badly or sits too close to something already on your menu. Reorder intent is nearer to the decision you need to make than a taste score on its own.

Customers who answer "Maybe" or "No" see an open question about what would make the dish better. Its description prompts them about spice, portion, price and how it held up in the bag, the four things a kitchen can realistically change. Those who would definitely reorder skip it, so the survey stays under a minute for people who are already happy.

The coupon

A free side with the next order is a light, low-cost thank-you that suits a launch. It also lets you steer customers towards a side you'd like more people to try. Make the code redeemable on your own ordering channels, since delivery apps generally don't take a kitchen's own codes. A shared code is enough because it only works alongside a paid order. Anyone who completes the survey gets it, whether they loved the dish or not.

What to do with the answers

After two weeks, look at the share of customers who would definitely order again. Compare it across the dishes you launch, so you build your own sense of what a strong start looks like in your kitchen. Then read the improvement comments. If they cluster on one thing, such as too mild or too small, adjust once and keep the survey running another fortnight to see whether the answers shift.

Dishes that pass the test join the regular menu, where the dish-by-dish rating can track them alongside everything else. To bring the customers who loved it back through your own site, the order direct template shows what would make that worth their while.
